Dear KHMS Families,

As we move through a busy time of the school year, thank you for your continued support and partnership. We also want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to and supported our staff during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week—your generosity truly made a difference!

We also have several important opportunities and upcoming events for our 8th grade students:

MySchool@Kent Summer School (for future 9th graders, 2026–2027): Students complete coursework remotely, with tests and final exams in person. There is no cost, but space is limited to 30 students. Applications are available from Mrs. Latham in Student Services and are due by May 22, 2026.

8th Grade Dance – Le Jardin Enchanté (May 29): Hosted by the high school French Club to celebrate students’ final year of middle school and welcome them to high school.

MICareer Quest (May 20): A great opportunity for students to explore potential career pathways.

8th Grade Celebration Trip (June 2): Students will celebrate the end of middle school at Coast Guard Park.

This week, students will be taking their iReady end-of-year assessments in their core classes. Please encourage your child to give their best effort, as this helps ensure the data accurately reflects all of the growth and learning they have accomplished this year.

Thank you for your continued partnership, support, and for being such an important part of our school community. We are grateful to work alongside you in supporting our students each and every day.

As always—Go Knights!

Dear KHMS Families,

As we move through a busy and important time of the school year, we want to thank you for your continued support and partnership. It has been a full stretch at KHMS, and we appreciate all you do to help your students stay engaged and successful.

Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have officially completed their M-STEP testing—thank you for helping your child come prepared, well-rested, and ready to do their best each day. We will take a short break from testing next week, with M-STEP makeups taking place as needed, before beginning iReady testing the week of May 11.

Our 8th graders had a meaningful visit to the high school this week, where they toured the building and heard a powerful presentation from Holocaust survivor Irene Miller. It was a memorable experience that provided both important historical perspective and lasting life lessons. Our 6th graders also had a wonderful experience at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. We are incredibly thankful to our parent chaperones for their time and support, as well as our staff for organizing such a great opportunity for students.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff!

As always—Go Knights!

Dear KHMS Families,

It’s been another busy and rewarding week at KHMS! From hands-on learning experiences to focused testing sessions, our students continue to represent our school in a positive way. Our 7th graders had a fantastic experience at Frederik Meijer Gardens, and we were proud of the effort shown by our 6th graders (M-STEP Math) and 8th graders (PSAT) during Tuesday’s assessments.

This coming week brings additional testing along with meaningful field trip opportunities. Please note the following upcoming events, which have been thoughtfully scheduled with testing in mind:

April 28 – 6th Grade: Grand Rapids Public Museum

April 29 – 8th Grade: Visit to the high school, including a special presentation from Holocaust survivor Irene Miller

To help our students perform their best during testing, please keep the following in mind on testing days:

Ensure your child gets a good night’s rest

Make sure their Chromebook is fully charged

Have your child arrive on time, as testing will begin promptly after breakfast

Attendance is always important, and it becomes especially critical during testing days. Being present consistently helps students stay in rhythm with their peers, feel more confident, and avoid the added stress of make-up testing. We appreciate your partnership in prioritizing attendance during this time and will continue to share any important updates throughout the testing window.

Finally, thank you to the many parents and caregivers who are helping make our drop-off and pick-up process run smoothly—we truly appreciate your efforts. We do want to remind everyone that there are still times when procedures are not being followed consistently. Taking a moment to review the expectations in our newsletter—especially using only the two designated lanes—helps ensure a safe and efficient experience for all students and families.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are looking forward to a strong finish to the school year.

As always—Go Knights!
