Grand Rapids, MI – Central Elementary and Zinser Elementary have been once again recognized as National Showcase Schools for the implementation of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) program from the Flippen Group. This is Central’s second year and Zinser’s fourth consecutive year receiving the award!
This rigorous award process is informed by building visits from Flippen Group consultants, evidence of program implementation, and survey data collected from students, parents, staff, and building principals. In each case, the award honors the hard work of the staff and administrators in all three buildings to make positive, caring relationships with students a top priority.
The foundation of Capturing Kids’ Hearts training is, if you have a child’s heart, you have their mind. The training focuses on everything related to positive and impactful relationships with students. Through expert coaching and a character-based curriculum for students, these training sessions equip us to implement transformational processes focused on social-emotional well-being, relationship-driven campus culture, and student connectedness.
As each elementary building looks ahead to the 2024-25 school year, staff and administrators are looking forward to building on the acknowledged success of their award-winning CKH programs. Their focus on developing a safe, respectful, and caring learning environment is just one way that KHPS continues to value, support, and empower all learners to achieve their full potential.

Grand Rapids, MI – Kenowa Hills High School has been recognized as one of the nation's best high schools by the U.S. News & World Report. The distinction places Kenowa Hills High School one of the top high schools in Michigan, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.
The rankings are based on a comprehensive evaluation of factors such as graduation rates, Advanced Placement (AP) offerings, standardized test scores, and overall school performance. Kenowa Hills High School’s continued dedication to fostering a supportive and challenging educational environment has resulted in this significant achievement.
“This recognition is a testament to Knights everywhere,” said Kenowa Hills Superintendent Gerald Hopkins. “The accomplishments mark a significant milestone in their educational journeys that started well before high school and will continue for decades. Thank you to the community for your empowerment. I couldn’t be more proud of the students and staff of Kenowa Hills High School.”
