Kenowa Hills Early Childhood Center

Principal's Message

Greetings KHECC Families!

We are so proud of our learners here at the Kenowa Hills Early Childhood Center (KHECC)! Our students are working hard everyday and one of the ways many ways that we celebrate that learning is recognize the skills that our children are mastering. As you walk through the main hallway here in the school building, please take a look at our celebration board. Each month the board has a different developmental skill area that we are highlighting. Each student gets to place their name on a shape next to the skill within that domain that they are most excited about and that they feel that they have mastered. It is amazing to see the students be able to tell us what they are proud of as it relates to their own learning and development. Please help them celebrate their growth.

On a an entirely separate note, 2018-2019 preschool registration is now open!  We have several early childhood program options at the KHECC:

Community Education Preschool offers 3- and 4- year-old children opportunity to explore, create and interact with other children their age while learning to feel comfortable at school. The programs expand on each other as the 3-year-old program focuses on social development, pre-academics, and other developmental domains appropriate for their age within their curriculum; the 4-year-old program offers curriculum designed to prepare students for kindergarten. This tuition-based program is not limited to residents of Kenowa Hills. Please note that the community education preschool has limited slots. You will want to register as early as possible to ensure your child's space. Visit http://www.khps.org/schools/early-childhood-center or call 616-647-0910 for more information. Children must turn 3 or 4 for their respective programs by September 1st.

Day Care and Learning Center provides both a before- and after-school daycare program for children from kindergarten to fifth grade, as well as all-day childcare with educational enrichment for 1 ½ to 5 year olds. Hours of operation are 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM year-round, offering care throughout school breaks, snow days and vacations. Enrollment is not limited to Kenowa Hills residents. Open enrollment is for any parent in need of childcare. For additional information, call 254- 8156 and ask for Kelley Johnson.

Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is a state-funded preschool program. Those who qualify* can attend a full-day program four days per week, Monday through Thursday. The GSRP Program also includes two home visits, two parent-teacher conferences, parent in-services and workshops. Please call the Kent Intermediate School District at 447-2409 for more details. *To be eligible, children must be 4 years old by September 1, 2017, reside in the KHPS District, meet income guidelines, meet required number of qualifying factors such as parental loss, sibling issues, teen parent, homeless, certain health conditions and more.
