Alpine Service Learning: Feeding America Food Truck

Dear Alpine Families,

Every year as part of our service learning efforts at Alpine Elementary, we have collected non-perishable food items from families to create Thanksgiving baskets. Although this has been a great experience for our students, we going to try something a little different this year in hopes to meet more needs in our community. This year, Alpine Elementary is sponsoring the non-profit group, Feeding America, to come to our school to hand out food to needy families in our community. This is a great opportunity for our students to work together towards the common good to provide a need in our community.

Their website tells us:
“In many ways, America is the land of plenty. But for 1 in 6 Americans, hunger is a reality. Many people believe that the problems associated with hunger are confined to small pockets of society, certain areas of the country, or certain neighborhoods, but the reality is much different.
Right now, millions of Americans are struggling with hunger. These are often hard-working adults, children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days.”

To sponsor this program we must raise approximately $250 as a school. Here at Alpine Elementary, we have planned some special days to reach this goal:

Nov. 8th & 15th: Popcorn Days -- $0.50 per bag
Nov. 15th: Hat Day -- $1 for students to wear a hat all day!

We will also continue to collect pennies and pop cans:

Nov. 4 through Nov. 18: We will be collecting pop cans and pennies!
