"How can we help Japan?", Alpine third graders asked after reading their Time For Kids news article about "Crisis in Japan". The next few days they began brainstorming what they could do to assist the earthquake and tsunami victims. Several students in Mrs. Vermeulen's class suggested they sell fortune cookies, and the rest of the grade level thought it
was a great idea! Third graders got the fortune cookies donated, created advertisement signs and commericals for Alpine's Daily News, and sold the cookies for a quarter a piece the week before Spring Break at lunchtime.
Mrs. Minegar, our Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, visited Alpine on the last day and helped our salespeople as they counted back change to several customers. She even made a special purchase herself! All money that was earned was sent to the Red Cross. It was a wonderful experience for all involved!
