It's set them free day!

Mr. Kropf's 3rd graders and Mrs. Bradford's kindergarteners released their 127 chinook salmon parrs into the the Rogue River last Thursday.
This hands-on learning experience allows students the opportunity to raise, care for and maintain the salmon in their classroom from fall until spring. The program culminates at the end of the school year with the release of the young fish in a local watershed that feeds one of the Great Lakes. Students and teachers participate in a program to follow the life cycle of salmon from eggs, to alevin to smolt, starting in the classroom. Many sad goodbyes were said as the young salmon headed downstream for the next stage of their life cycle.

It can be hard to comprehend a world water crisis when, for you, accessing water is as simple as walking across the room and turning on a tap. For the nearly 1 billion people across the world without access to clean water, however, that walk can take hours, and culminates in gathering a 20-liter jerry can of dirty water from a river or pond. This is simply not right. Third graders have been carrying jerry cans of water to lunch and back to build awareness of what life is like for families in Rwanda. They have been collecting spare change from home to help purchase simple water filtration systems for safe, healthy, clean water to drink for families in Rwanda, as well as, learning about the importance of conserving our natural resources, especially water.

With the support of the Kenowa Hills community, the Buffalo Wild Wings Benefit for Megan Heeringa was a huge success! THANK YOU to everyone who supported this event! A check from BBWs will be presented to the Heeringa family to help with medical related expenses. Together, we were able to raise just over $500.00 for the Heeringa family. Your support is appreciated!
