Intermediate School News and Announcements

May, 2009

As we finish up the 2008/09 school year, I would like to say how proud I am of the great year we have had. Highlights included an A on our Michigan School Report Card. Continued improvement on our MEAP scores. One of our Odyssey of the Mind Teams placing 3rd in the State. Our Family Council has increased opportunities for parental and family involvement. And our continued support of Rex Reed and his family.

This success was all a result of the hard work of the Intermediate students, parents, and staff. Working together we have created a caring and safe school where all students can learn.

You can view the KHIS monthly newsletter online. Go to KH Intermediate School and select Newsletters. Then click on Building Newsletters. Each month not only does the newsletter get sent home with students, but you may view online.

Food Service

These are the online services now available through our Food Service Point of Sale (POS) system: LunchDeposit.com and LunchApp.com.

LunchDeposit.com enables you to view your child’s account history and food choice details at no charge. In addition, you will be able to deposit money into your child’s account using your debit/credit card. There is a service fee when utilizing this electronic deposit feature. This web site is easy to use. All you need to begin using this site is your child’s student ID#.

She came to help students get excited about writing a story for Young Authors. She is the author of many books, one popular young adult book is Defending Irene. Students participated in a school-wide assembly where Kristin engaged the students in her thoughts on the writing process. This allowed them to see how she gathered ideas, become familiar with her topics and carry out the writing process. The students really enjoyed this presentation and are excited about writing a story for a chance to visit Calvin College and a KHIS celebration.

On January 14th, 38 students participated in the Intermediate School Spelling Bee.  First place was fifth grader Rachel Klap and second place was 5th grader Hannah Smallegan.  Both girls will move on to compete in the Regional Bee on February 24th.  Principal Erich Harmsen was the pronouncer and teachers Joanna Haines, Rochelle Compau, and Ryan Levitt were judges.  Great job to all students who participated!
